Biography:

GAO is the former director-general of China CDC (2017-2022), former vice- president of National Natural Science Foundation of China (2018- 2022) and former director-general of Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2004-2008). He is also an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), an international member of the National Academy of Sciences (US), a foreign member of the Royal Society (UK), and a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
