The Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center is a research-oriented hospital approved by the Shanghai Municipal Government and directly subordinate to the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission. It is being built and managed by ShanghaiTech University.
On September 30, 2022, the Center broke ground on the block next to the university campus in Zhangjiang. The construction currently underway is the first phase of the Center, which covers an area of 50,844.2m2, with a total construction area of 136,895m2, and has 500 hospital beds planned, including 200 beds for clinical treatment and 300 for research.
On October 31, 2023, after 396 days of construction work, the final piece of basement pouring was completed, marking the successful completion of all basement structures and the commencement of construction of the main above-ground structure. During the basement construction, a total of approximately 49,000 m3 of concrete was poured and 4,233 tons of steel structure was hoisted.
Currently, the inpatient building is undergoing the structural construction of its first floor; the research building is undergoing the steel beam installation of its third floor, and the steel columns on the first floor of the medical technology building are in the hoisting process. The first phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, and the Center will begin trial operations in 2026.
