On November 2, a 13-member delegation led by Ir. HS Kan, Consultant to the HKSAR Health Bureau, and Ir John KWONG Ka-sing, Vice-President for Development of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), visited Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center (the "Center"). The delegation was received by Chouwen ZHU, President of the Center, and Yan NIE, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs) of ShanghaiTech University, among others.

During the symposium, President ZHU welcomed the delegation and introduced the Center's background, development milestones and overall layout, sharing the Center's experience in project initiation and approval, construction and operation management, and the synergy of medical services, education and research. Zheming RUAN, Design Director of the Center, presented the Center's spatial design concept that integrates research and clinical functions.

The delegation briefly introduced the preparatory background and planning of the proposed integrated medical-education-research hospital in the Northern Metropolis of Hong Kong. The two sides held in-depth discussions on research hospital development, hospital management, clinical research platform development and medical-education-research synergy. The Center shared its experience in the "one-time planning, step-by-step implementation" construction model, research-oriented spatial layout with a "front-of-house, back-of-house" design, priority research areas and shared research platforms, including its nuclear medicine platform, as well as talent recruitment and development, and responded to the delegation's questions on hospital governance, workforce development and medical-education-research integration. The two sides agreed to maintain long-term exchanges to continue providing experience and reference for the medical-education-research project in the Northern Metropolis.

Prior to the symposium, the delegation toured the construction site of the Center to learn about its functional layout and construction progress. The visit provided a platform for mutual learning and experience sharing between the two sides. Representatives from the HKSAR Health Bureau, the Hospital Authority, HKUST and Alvarez & Marsal joined the delegation.
