On September 28, the Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center received the fire‑safety acceptance inspection for its construction project conducted by the Shanghai Construction Engineering Safety and Quality Supervision Station, advancing the scheduled commissioning of this key municipal‑level project.

Approved by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center is a research‑oriented hospital developed and managed under ShanghaiTech University. With a total floor area of 136 000 square metres, the complex consists of three towers: an outpatient building, a research complex building and an inpatient building. Upon completion, it will become Shanghai’s first hospital dedicated to clinical research.
Given its sophisticated internal functional layout, the project involved extensive fire‑safety verification covering a wide scope. The inspection lasted two days, during which 16 fire compartments were spot‑checked. Inspectors reviewed critical fire‑safety elements including fire‑resistance separation for operating rooms, laboratories and ICU refuge rooms; evacuation routes for wards, large‑size office zones, sunken plazas and multi‑function halls; combustion performance of materials used in kitchens and cold storage areas; and explosion‑proof measures for boiler rooms. Simulated fire‑scenario tests were also carried out in key utility rooms such as diesel generator houses, water pump houses, smoke‑control and exhaust equipment rooms, and power distribution rooms, to verify reliable operation of fire‑fighting facilities, proper switch‑over of backup power and water supply, and effective linkage across all relevant systems.

The Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center has officially passed fire‑safety acceptance. From blueprints to physical facilities, from regulatory requirements to on‑site implementation, every refined detail and every round of on‑site work reflects professional commitment. Beyond compliance with technical codes, the project embodies respect for human life and corresponding responsibilities. This milestone belongs to all construction practitioners who have devoted their efforts to the build. Moving forward, the Center will maintain its professionalism and dedication, press ahead with follow‑up construction work, and strive for the official launch of the facility.
