The Biobank of Shanghai Clinical Research Center launched its construction in 2022 in compliance with CNAS-CL10:2020 Criteria for the Accreditation of the Quality and Competence of Biobanks. It aims to build a standardized, intelligent, open and shared repository for biological samples and data resources.
The Center Biobank focuses on biological sample collection, epidemiological surveys and follow-up visits for clinical research, general population cohorts, physical examination cohorts and disease-specific cohorts. It has established a culture platform for primary cells and organoids, and delivers services including standardized workflow development and specification formulation for industrialization, as well as sample processing, preservation, testing and technical consultation. It lays a fundamental foundation for research and development in precision medicine and biotechnology, accelerating clinical translation and industrialization.
Covering a construction area of approximately 3,000 square meters, the biobank can store up to 15 million samples (calculated based on 0.5 mL cryovials). It supports multi-temperature storage environments including -196°C, -80°C, -20°C, 4°C and room temperature. Some storage zones meet ISO Class 5 cleanliness standards, enabling storage services for cell therapy products.
Committed to full-lifecycle digital management of biological samples, the Center Biobank integrates automation, Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence technologies to develop an unattended biobank system. It enables full-process traceability covering sample receipt, preparation, warehousing, retrieval and quality control with minimal manual intervention.
